Theories in Social Work

In the course theories in social work, knowledge of the historical development and the professionalization of theories in and of social work is imparted. The focus is on an in-depth examination of these theories as well as the aspects of health, stigmatization and power. In addition, current discourses and a theory-based reflection are part of the course.

After successfully completing the course, students can:

• name, explain and historically locate groundbreaking stations in the professionalisation of social work
• understand the ambivalence of help and control and explain it based on literature
• understand central theories / concepts of social work science / related sciences with regard to health, diversity and power in the basics
• explain, reflect on and differentiate between central theories in social work
